Ask Box: It’s rude to erase queer identity

In response to: Use Molly’s correct pronouns

Totally fair that someone is uncomfortable with fics where different pronouns are used on a character they identify with, and as nb myself, i can sympathize with your friend. but please consider the other nb people writing fics/meta/ that are probably writing it that way because they themselves relate to the character in a different way. in a way that’s probably just as important to them. Telling people they can only relate to a character in a specific way, the way that you want, is pretty rude

We can agree to disagree. I think it’s pretty rude to erase a character’s queer identity with one you like better.

Because I can guaran-damn-tee you that tells me you’re judging what identities are and aren’t valid for real people. I constantly see the microagression of people only respecting pronouns they deem correct. And I’m particularly over seeing it from trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer people against other trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer people. I don’t see a conflict between relating to Molly as a nonbinary character and using his given pronouns unless you think someones pronouns aren’t important or good enough.

Do whatever you think is right and makes you happy. But I’m not going to stop pointing out it’s hurting people just because you don’t want to see that.
Because it’s not just my friend. I’ve heard from other people that were too scared or tired to speak up.
